Fairy tales in the news
The AP story about the breakup of Prince William and Kate Middleton not only invokes fairy tales in the lead, but includes a "Frog Prince" reference in the fourth paragraph.
This is the online classroom of Andy Duncan's seminar on 21st-century fantasy, UH 300-003 in the Honors College of the University of Alabama.

I remember watching a special on the Charles and Diana wedding. The reporters constantly referred to the event as a fairy tale wedding and to Diana's backstory as a Cinderella tale.
on a lighter not as educational note, i'm really sad they broke up! i had no idea and i really wanted her to be queen.
I was about to say the same thing about their wedding. Everything about the royal family is fairy tale-esque to me. There is nothing more fairy tale than a Prince and a Princess falling in love.
Perhaps because they live in a fabled land of Tabloid.
I like the idea of Tabloid as a fantasy realm with borders!
Elizabeth, when you say, "Everything about the royal family is fairy tale-esque to me," could you elaborate on what you mean? Aren't cannibalism and infanticide just as much fairy-tale motifs as "a Prince and a Princess falling in love"?
