just your everyday meth addict...

For all those who have already read "The Case Study," I was wondering whether you would consider it fantasy? I for one thought the story was clever and quite funny, but to label it as a fantasy was going a little far for me. What do y'all think?

I'm up in the air on it myself. I enjoyed it, but I'm not sure it was really fantasy, either, for all it tried to couch itself as a fairy tale, or a modern take on one, anyway.

I did really like it, though--it was cute, I thought, with the quotes and the citations and the overall medical tone it sets while relaying weird things so deadpan.

It was a great story...but I agree - how in the world is that fantasy? With the weird people and such that we have in the world today, that is completely possible. And if I could open up the front page of the news and see the story...I don't consider it fantasy.

I think it depends on how you interpret the story. If all of it really was just meth-hallucinations, then no, it's probably not fantasy, but if it was supposed to be real weirdness explained away by the logical minds of the staff, then it is. The beauty of the story is that it blurs that line, so you don't actually know whose version (perception) of reality to believe. So, you pretty much have to assume that the writer meant to imply both interpretations, which in turn means that they are allmost equal in weight. So you really have to call it fantasy, just because of that other interpretation.

i really enjoyed this story too, and i really like what tara said aout the beauty of this story being that it does blur the line between fantasy and reality. in doing so it leaves a major impression on the reader, which is obviously the goal of all authors and i think why it was my favorite of these four tales
